Wilmer C. Diedrichs, 76, of Ames, died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Per his wishes, Wilmer was cremated. No service is planned at this time.

Wilmer Clair Diedrichs was born Aug. 8, 1932, in Crab Orchard, Neb., the beloved son of Allen and Carlotta (Hunt) Diedrichs. He married Reatha Pomrenke Dec. 21, 1962, in Wheat Ridge, Colo. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a research chemist at Iowa State University and later worked as a chemist at the Iowa Department of Agriculture in Des Moines. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many and will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Reatha Diedrichs, of Ames; two sons, Max Diedrichs, of Ames, and Matthew Diedrichs, of Boone; one grandson, Austin Diedrichs, of Norwalk; two granddaughters, Noelle and Ava Diedrichs, of Boone; three sisters; and three brothers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Carlotta Diedrichs, and one grandson, Griffin Diedrichs.
