Alma Louise Egeland, 90, of Madrid, formerly of Huxley, died Monday, Oct. 27 at the Madrid Home. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31 at Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 at Palestine Lutheran Church.
Alma was born July 27, 1918 in Slater to A.R. and Olava (Kvale) Egeland. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1936 and worked as a maid in Chicago for 2 years before attending nursing school at Lutheran Deacon's Hospital in Chicago from 1938-1940. For the next 2 years, she did private nursing and then was in the Army from 1943-1946. She attended Prairie Bible Institute in Canada and was a missionary with New Tribes Mission, spending time in Brazil from 1950-1962. She worked at Iowa Lutheran Hospital until her retirement. Alma was a member of Palestine Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Egeland of Huxley and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
