Homer Walker, 83, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, also at Bethesda Lutheran Church.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.

Homer Wayne Walker, 83, of Ames, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Mary Greeley Medical Center, in Ames. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, with Pastor Joel Wight Hoogheem officiating. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at Bethesda Lutheran Church.

Homer Wayne Walker was born May 22, 1925, in Saxonburg, Pa., to Wm. Howard and Margaret (Logan) Walker. He graduated from Butler High School in Butler, Pa., received a bachelor's degree in bacteriology from Penn State, and an master's degree in 1953 and a Ph.D. in 1955, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was professor of food technology at Iowa State University for 35 years, retiring in 1990.

Homer was in the U.S. Army during the World War II occupation of Japan, serving as Technical Sergeant.

He married Donna Smith July 20, 1963, in Burlington.

Homer was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, where he was a past president, charter member of ACTORS, longtime member of Lions, and member of Ames Brush Club. He had appreciation for art, literature and music.

Survivors include his wife, Donna, of Ames; son, Douglas (Nancy) Walker, of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Gladys Neel, of Butler, Pa.; and three grandsons, Jacob, Matthew and Adam.

His parents and brother, Howard, preceded him in death.

Memorials may be given to Bethesda Lutheran Church, Lutheran Services in Iowa (Beloit), or a charity of your choice.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
