AMES DAILY TRIBUNE AND TIMES, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, October 16, 1935.

SLATER - Funeral services were conducted here Wednesday for Mrs. Mary Bassett, 92, pioneer Slater resident who died Sunday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dud Graves, west of Madrid. Burial was in the Slater cemetery.

Mrs. Bassett, one of the few remaining Civil war widows in the state, came to Iowa from Illinois in 1880 and settled at Garden Prairie, later moving to Slater where she lived until the death of her husband 13 years ago. Since that time she had made her home with her daughter.

She was a member of the Slater Methodist church, the Ladies Aid society and an honorary member of the Slater Embroidery club.

Besides the daughter with whom she lived, Mrs. Bassett is survived by the following other children: Guy of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. Amanda Sundle of Council Bluffs, and Mrs. Cedie Crost of Adel.
