Helen Moreland, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at Riverview Manor in Ames. Her wishes were to be cremated and services will be planned at a later date.
Helen was born July 27, 1926, in Brighton, to Mary and Leo Stone. She attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon and Iowa State University. As a Washington County deputy treasurer, she met her husband, Russell K. Moreland. Married on Jan. 23, 1954, Helen and Russell lived most of their lives in Ames raising their three children. She retired as a self-employed travel agent of More Lands to Travel, travel service.
A lifetime member of P.E.O., she loved writing poetry, traveling, reading and collecting antiques.
She will be missed by her husband of 54 years, Russell; two sons, Michael, of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Philip, of Hartford, Conn.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Bush, of Edina, Minn., Matthew Moreland, of Ames, Paul Moreland, of Windsor Heights, and Kate Langmoreland, of Windsor Heights; and three brothers, Gene, of Albuquerque, N.M., Donald, of Winona, Minn., and James, of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by one son, Bruce, and her parents.
Brooks Funeral Care of Clive is assisting the family.
