Alice Louise Smuck, 92, of Dunbar, Iowa, formerly of Story City, peacefully joined her heavenly family Saturday; July 26, 2008. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 31st at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial followed in the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Visitation with the family was Wednesday, July 30th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Alice Smuck was born on December 16, 1915 in Story City, Iowa, the daughter of Lars and Annie Tesdall. She attended school in Story City.

On January 19, 1937 she united in marriage to Murl Smuck in Missouri. The couple resided in Clemons, Iowa and then Story City. She was a dedicated wife of 59 years. She was a caring mother and grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and a friend to all whom she met.

Alice committed 44 years of her life caretaking for her daughter, Diane Sue Smuck, who was severely handicapped.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Alice was a woman of character who loved Jesus Christ and served Him for her entire life. She was a person of quiet nature that cared for all of her family and friends.

Alice has spent the last seven years of her life living with her daughter and son-in-law, Larry and Sharon Stowe in Dunbar, Iowa.

She was a dedicated fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. She also spent a lot of her spare time with her family, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

Left to cherish her memory is her son Mike (Elaine) Smuck of Story City; daughters Shirley (Dale) Miller of Albion and Sharon (Larry) Stowe of Dunbar; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

In death she has rejoined her beloved husband Murl; her daughters, Loretta Shelton and Diane Smuck; her parents; her granddaughter, Peggy Sue Ferkin; three sisters, Julia Swenson, Mildred Skare, and Clara Rikensrud; and four brothers, Lawrence, Arthur, Don, and Abel Tesdall.
