THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, September 7, 2008.
Dorothea W. Gienger, 97, of Ames, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Northcrest Community in Ames. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames.
Dorothea was born Aug. 15, 1911, on a farm northeast of Gladbrook in Tama County. She was the youngest of nine children of Bernard and Willhelmina (Keiser) Gienger. She attended rural school and graduated from high school in Gladbrook. She then attended State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.
After graduation, she taught home economics in numerous schools. She joined the Home Economics Department at Iowa State University. She retired in 1973 after 49 years of teaching in all.
In retirement she enjoyed fishing, traveling, attending music and art programs and thoroughly enjoyed life with family and friends.
She was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church of Ames, Ames Woman's Club, Order of the Knoll and Altrusa Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all eight of her brothers and sisters, and longtime friend, Louella Scholdfelt.
She will be missed by many relatives, friends and former students.
