DR. JULIUS B. WEEMS DIES IN VIRGINIA

Dr. Julius B. Weems. 64, member of the Iowa State college faculty from 1895 to 1904, died suddenly, Jan. 25, at his home at Ashland, Va., according to word received here Tuesday.

Dr. Weems was a fellow in chemistry at Clark university for the sessions of 1892-93 and 1893-
94. and received his degree of doctor of philosophy at that well-known university.

Following his graduation at Clark university Dr. Weems was for about 10 years a professor of agricultural chemistry and chemist of the experimental station of Iowa State college. From 1904 to 1911 he was a consulting and analytical chemist and then for four years devoted himself to an investigation of farm life problems.

Since July 15. 1915, Dr. Weems has been associated with the Virginia state department of agriculture.

Dr. Weems was at his office in the state office building the day before his death and was then apparently in his usual health, it was stated by his associates in the department of agriculture to whom, as well as to a large circle of personal friends, his death has come as a great shock.

Dr. Weems was well-known in Richmond, and thruout Virginia as a distinguished chemist, having been in the service of the state for the past 15 years.

He was born in Baltimore, Aug. 27, 1865, and was a member of a family long prominent in Maryland and in Virginia. He was a son of Edwin Weems and Mrs. Rosetta Norman Weens and received his early education at the Maryland Agricultural college, from which he graduated in 1888. He was then a special student at Johns Hopkins University for two years.

Dr. Weems is survived by his widow, two daughters - the Misses Rachel and Caroline, and two sons George and Julius Jr.
