Former Kelley High Head Dies Suddenly

KELLEY, Jan. 31 - Hershal Howard, principal of the Kelley high school during the school years 1927-28 and 1928-29, died suddenly Thursday night in a Waterloo hospital according to word received here today.

Mr. Howard was well liked in the Kelley community and left the local schools to take a position as principal of the LaPorte city high school.

Little details of the death are known here. Mr. Howard's home is at Glidden.

Herschel Howard Rites Held Sunday

KELLEY, Feb. 3— Funeral services for Herschel Howard. 25, former principal of the Kelley schools were held Sunday afternoon at Glidden. Burial was in the Glidden cemetery.

Mr. Howard was principal of the LaPorte City high school at the time of his death. He was principal of the Kelley high school for two years 1927 to 1929. Mr. Howard was a graduate of the State University of Iowa. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. O. Howard, of Glidden, and a sister and two brothers, survive.

Mr. Howard died Thursday following an emergency appendicitis operation.
