AMES DAILY TRIBUNE-TIMES, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, January 2, 1930.
"Word of the passing of Edward Crane, one of the older farmers and settlers in the country southwest of Ames, came as a shock to his old friends here. Coming from New York to Iowa whea he was a young man, he settled here and took up farming. As that occupation was not sufficiently remunerative in those days, Mr. Crane added to it by teaching school for which he was well fitted by nature and by training. He Sas supppsed to be perfect in arithmetic and orthography. How good he was in higher branches it was not necessary foy country schools to know, but his certificate was said to be without blemish. Certain it is that he taught very successful schools, in districts within reach by horseback, for he boarded at home. His pupils now living in Story and Boone counties hold him in the highest reverence. When Mr. and Mrs. Crape left here it was to return to New York state and purchase the old home farm, there to take up farming and dairying. When his son, Merle, visited them he said he had seldom seen a finer dairy herd than his father's.
