George M. Gilley, Prominent Collins Resident Is Killed

COLLINS. Dec. 30, - George M. Gilley, 65, of Collins, died late Saturday afternoon at Ankeny, enroute to Des Moines for treatment for concussion of the brain following an accident at the Bert Link farm near Collins. Gilley never recovered consciousness.

Gilley and his son Gerald were loading building movement equipment after moving a barn for Link. Gilley was standing by a capstan when Gerald noticed that it was falling. Gerald shouted and his father instinctively doubled over. The capstan struck him at the base of the brain. Local doctors said that his only chance for life was to get him to a Des Moines hospital but he died at Ankeny. Gilley was preparing to bring his equipment to Ames to move a house there.

Funeral services were held this afternoon, at the Christian church of Collins. The Rev. A. B. Kern of Lake City was in charge of the services. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. Gilley was a well known citizen of this,community. He moved to a farm near Collins from Runnells in 1890 and in 1900 moved to Collins. He has lived in the north part of town for the past 29 years. Gilley was born at Adelphi on March 24,1888.

Besides his wife, five, children survive. They are: Mrs. Eva Fertig of southeast of Collins, William of Collins, and Gerald and Zola at home. Three sisters and one brother also survive. One son died in infancy.

Mrs. Gilley was formerly Miss Bell Halterman of Runnells, Iowa.
