Lois Maxine (Weir) Jay, 84, of Colo, died on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 28, at the Colo United Methodist Church with Pastor Lewis Flanigan officiating. Burial followed in the Colo Cemetery.
Lois was born on June 29, 1924 in Colo to Orville Albert and Nellie Pearl (Jones) Weir. She was a 1941 graduate of Colo High School and attended the State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. On June 4, 1944, Lois married Lester Wilson Jay in Nevada. She was a longtime employee of Donnelley Marketing of Nevada. Lois was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Cloverleaf Club. She enjoyed bowling, card playing, reading, and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lois is survived by her three children, Dennis (Kim) Jay of Grand Island, NE, Dorothy (Fred) Cerka and Donna (John) Cerka, all of Colo; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Harold (Fern) Weir of Iowa City and Vern (Jan) Weir of Corpus Christi, TX; a sister, Edna Ward of Ankeny; a sister-in-law Jean Ann Weir of Colo.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lester on February 2, 1987, a granddaughter Tina Jay, brother Ray Weir, and brother-in-law Wilford Ward.
A memorial fund has been established.
Chet Ryan Mortuary was entrusted with Lois' arrangements.
