Luther S. Holland, 78, died Monday, August 4, 2008 at his home after a long battle with cancer. Visitation was held Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church, McCallsburg. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Bethany Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg followed by lunch in the Church basement.

Luther was born on September 26, 1929 in Story County to parents Samuel & Amanda (Erickson) Holland. He attended McCallsburg School and after receiving his GED, graduated with his daughter Ricki in 1970!

Luther has been a life-long resident of McCallsburg. He bought hogs for L.G. Ellingson and tried other short-term jobs. In 1961, he purchased his garage from Earl Hanson. He worked on heavy machinery, buses and Race Cars. Little children loved to hang out there.

He was a charter Lions Club member, served as a first responder, volunteer fireman, and member of Bethany Lutheran Church where he served as President and Trustee.

Lue was so content to climb into his race car for racing for years and later for "Ole Time" racing. He made many fond memories and friends from all over the U.S. He married Ione (Jacobson) on July 17, 1949 at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland.

He is survived by his wife, Ione, of 59 years; 3 daughters: Ricki (Gary) Meimann, Lou Ann (Rob) Williams, Mary Jo and 1 son: Jim (Jan) Holland. Grandchildren: Carrie, Jenny, Jami, Jeremy, Jim, John, Ellie, Sam and Cori. Great-grandchildren: Jacob, Lexi, Shalynn, Katelynn, Tony, Noah, Lucas, Hanah, and one brother, Truman (Marv) Holland. His parents and 3 sisters preceded him in death.

Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Hospice of Marshalltown.
