Joseph F. Backoff
Joseph F. Backoff, 85, a former resident of Nevada, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 1989 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Baxter, IA. Backoff had been a resident at the nursing home for one year. Cause of death was complications of a stroke.
Backoff was born June 12, 1903 in Story County to Lee and Mary (Pierre) Backoff. He was a resident of Story County for almost all of his life. He married Margaret Boozell in Nevada in January of 1960.
Survivors include his wife Margaret of Nevada, son James of Colo, grandchildren, several step grandchildren, two stepsons, Irven Boozell of Des Moines and Lonnie Boozell of Riverside, CA, and two stepdaughters, Mary Smith and Betty Breer both of Collins, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and his first wife, Violet, who died in 1958.
Backoff was a retired employee of the former Nevada Poultry Company and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Services were held at the church Tuesday. Fr. John Herzog officiated. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
