Dale M. Atkinson, 83, of the 6300 block of School Street, Windsor Heights, died of complications of diabetes Monday at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
Mr. Atkinson was born in Collins and had lived in the Des Moines area 61 years. He was a retired sales representative with Kelco Co. in Marshall, Minn., and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Douglas Avenue Senior Citizens Center and Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Ada; two daughters, Joyce Andrews of Clive and Janice Hanks of Waukee; four stepdaughters, Dorothy Bohan of Webster City, Beverly Irwin of Des Moines, Bernice Ortale of Ankeny and Susan Watson of Ashland, Ore.; a stepson, Richard Rod of Wheaton, Ill.; a brother, Lowell of Rockaway, N.J.; two sisters, Mildred Dahl of San Jose, Calif., and Doris Elliott of Ames; five grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, E. Darlene.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Westover Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to his church or the American Diabetes Association.
