Lena Mae Arnold, 80, of Gilbert died of a heart ailment Sunday at Grand Avenue Care Center in Ames. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert, of which she was a member. Burial will be at South St. Petri Cemetery there.

Mrs. Arnold was born in Loami, Ill., and had lived in Alabama, New Mexico and Missouri before moving to Story County in 1951. She had lived in Gilbert since 1958. She was a retired custodian for the Gilbert Lutheran Church and enjoyed sewing, reading and quilting.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda Lou Arnold of Gilbert, Wanda Jean McMullen of Colo, and Mary Ann Mittlestadt of Collins; a son, David of Gilbert; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church. Adams Funeral Home in Ames is handling arrangements.

Lena Mae Arnold was born on Sept 25, 1919, in Loami, Ill., the daughter of John and Katie Mae (Walker) Huber. She had been a resident of Gilbert since January 1958. She married Earnest Arnold on Feb. 21, 1941, in Springfield, Ill. She worked as a custodian for Gilbert Lutheran Church for 20 years. She was a member of Gilbert Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, reading and quilting.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Lou Arnold of Gilbert, Wanda Jean McMullen of Colo and Maly Ann Mittlestadt of Collins; her son David Wayne Arnold of Gilbert, 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 7, 1992, two sons, Earnest Arnold Jr. and John Michael Arnold; her daughter, Helen Louise McMullen; her parents and a brother.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
