Iola Brendeland Appelgate, 94, of Nevada, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada.
She was born Jan. 5, 1909, in Nevada to Henry and Cora (Wright) Sherk. She graduated from Nevada High School. She had worked in the National Grocery Store and Hunts Super Value in Nevada for many years. She married Palmer (Polly) Brendeland on Sept. 1, 1926. He died Jan. 22, 1976. She later married Dorrel Appelgate on Jan. 6, 1979, and he also preceded her in death. She was member of the Memorial Lutheran Church and the Woodmen Circle. She enjoyed her nieces and nephews and their families as well as cooking and gardening.
Survivors include a niece, Karen (and Robert) Klopping of Nevada; two nephews, Craig (and Carolyn) Taylor of Nevada and Jack (and Pat) Hutichison of Nevada, Iowa; two grandnieces and five grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a brother, Harry "Bud" Sherk; two sisters, Vera Hutchison and Evelyn Taylor; and a niece, Travelle Reed.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial was Monday morning at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Story County Long Term Care, American Cancer Society and to the American Heart Association. The Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada handled arrangements.
