Guy Elroy Allee, 88, of Ames and formerly of Burlington, died Tuesday, July 15, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Chapel of the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington, with the Rev. Trevor Davis officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 20, in Rector Cemetery in rural Chelsea.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 19, at the funeral home.
Guy Elroy Allee was born Sunday, Jan. 4, 1920, in Chelsea, the son of Guy Edward and Nelle Boyer Allee. He married Helen Marie Hudson Jan. 24, 1941, in Des Moines.
After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and received a Bronze Star. For 10 years after World War II, he was in the U.S. Army Reserves with the rank of major.
He had worked at Lamont Ltd. in Burlington, where he had retired as vice president and treasurer. He had lived in Burlington for 50 years before moving to Ames in 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Ames; one daughter, Betty (Michael) Bowman, of Ames; one granddaughter, Kimberly (Greg) Larson, of Marion; one grandson, Brian (Colleen) Bowman, of Oswego, Ill.; and five great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Logan Larson, and Abigail, Brianna and Hayden Bowman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Allee; one great-grandson, Grady Larson; and one nephew.
A memorial has been established for Collegiate United Methodist Church/Wesley Foundation, of Ames.
