THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, June 26, 2008.
Freda Darlene Shinn, 77, of Ames, died Wednesday, June 25, at Israel Family Hospice House. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, with Chaplain Henrietta Klarenbeek officiating.
Freda Shinn was born June 16, 1931, in rural Madison County, to Dana and Florence (Fox) Gilbert. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1949. She married Ted Shinn on June 19, 1955. Freda and Ted lived in Greenfield for several years and moved to Ames in 1965, where she was employed by Sundstrand (Sauer-Danfoss) for 20 years, retiring in 1993.
She loved spending time with her family, cooking and sewing. She was an avid Iowa State fan and always cheered on the Cyclones!
She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Shinn and Sandy (Keith) Sisson, all of Ames; two grandchildren, Ryan (Kira) Sisson, of Urbandale, and Nicole Sisson, of Ames; three sisters, Francis Baier, of Clarinda, Velma Siglin, of Woodward, and Verna Mae (Bill) Ferguson, of Greenfield; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ted, in 2001.
Memorials may be directed to the family. A donation will be made to Israel Family Hospice House in Freda's name.
Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
