THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, June 24, 2008.
Effie Wilson Anderson, 93, of Ames, died Sunday, June 22, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Adams Funeral Home. There will be a private family burial in Linwood Cemetery in Boone.
Effie was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Boone, the daughter of Walter R. and Bessie (Norick) Wilson. She graduated from Boone High School in 1931, attended Boone Junior College and graduated from Drake University with a degree in education. She taught in rural schools in Boone and Story counties, and elementary schools in Cambridge and Ballard Community District in Story County. She enjoyed reading, public radio, bridge and cross-stitching her own designs, but her passion was teaching kids to read. She and Glenn enjoyed 33 years at their Minnesota North Shore Ten Mile Lake summer home.
She married Glenn E. Anderson on Aug. 15, 1937. She was a member of the Ames and Hackensack, Minn., United Church of Christ Congregational and a charter member of the Beta Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Society for Women Teachers.
She is survived by three daughters, Charlene (Watson) Mason, Verdene Anderson and Glennis Anderson; one son, Glenn (Catherine) Anderson; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, and three sisters, Irene, Genevieve and Zoe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ames United Church of Christ, Congregational, or Salvation Army.
