Sally M. Tjelmeland, 72, of rural Nevada, died of a heart ailment on Jan. 18 at Mary Greeley Medical center, Ames.
She was born May 21, 1927, in Colo to Sam and Mary (McIntosh) Banks. She graduated from Fernald High School and attended nurses training at Marshalltown Evangelical Deaconess Hospital. She married Leo Tjelmeland on Dec. 9, 1947. She was a licensed nurses aide at Story County Hospital and Bethany Manor until retiring in 1987. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. She had lived north of Nevada for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Leo, of rural Nevada; a daughter, Sherry Rogee of Ames; three sons, Jim Tjelmeland of Vinton, Paul Tjelmeland of Auburn, Ala.; and Dean Tjelmeland of Nevada; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Merie Wilkening of Colo; and a brother, Donald Banks of Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 21, at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland with the Rev. Steve Schwartz officiating. Burial was in the Roland Cemetery. Soderstrum Funeral Home, Roland, handled arrangements.
