Funeral services were held at Bethel Lutheran Church, Story City, at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, for Orville J. Olson, 75. Pastor Donald L. Berg officiated. Greetings were brought by pastor Enoch Hall, chaplain of Story City Bethany Manor, and pastor Robert Alstrom, chaplain of Lutheran Homes at Muscatine, spoke in behalf of the family.
Preceding this service, a brief service was also held at the Story City Bethany Manor Chapel with Chaplain Hall in charge. Pastor Berg brought greetings also. Louise Olson was organist at this service.
Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Casket bearers were Derral Tressler, Curtis Townswick, Allen Anderson, Richard Johnson, Joe Campbell and James Hagberg.
Orville J. Olson, son of Ole H. and Julia Olson, was born May 30, 1903 on a farm northwest of Story City. He was baptized by Rev. J.H.T. Lee at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Stanhope, and on Oct. 28, 1917 confirmed his faith at St. Paul's before Rev. Omar Brenne.
He received his education in the rural schools of LaFayette Township in Story County. On Feb. 19, 1927, he was united in marriage with Lillian M. Townswick. At that time he transfered his membership to Bethel Lutheran Church in Story City.
Orville and Lillian were the parents of three children: Delores (Mrs. Paul Abrahamson); Robert B. Olson; and a son Richard Paul Olson, who died in infancy. In addition to their own family, they also provided a home for several foster children.
Orville had lived in the Story City area throughout his life, and had been engaged in farming. His wife, Lillian passed away in September 1977.
Orville entered Bethany Manor in August 1978, and passed away there on Thrusday afternoon, Dec. 14.
He is survived by his daughter, Delores Abrahamson of St. Paul, Minn.; a son Robert D. Olson of Story City; two grandsons, Terry and Todd Olson of Story City; one sister, Mrs. Ruby Tressler, Story City; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death also were his parents; one sister; and two brothers; Hattie Olson, Omer Olson and Herman Olson.---from the Ames Tribune Dec. 28, 1978
