Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Kirby, 80, of Story City, were held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 24 at 1:30 p.m. from Grace United Methodist Church, Story City. The Rev. Duane O'Tool was in charge. Special music was by Martha and Paul Miles, accompanied by Brian Orcutt.
Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Pall bearers were Paul Miles, Craig Rohrssen, Michael Sherty, Bill Bagnall, Danny Jackson, and Russell Kirby.
Mrs. Graham (Hazel Mae) Kirby was born Feb. 28, 1898 in Story County. Her parents were Elisha and Minnie Ernst. On May 28, 1917 she was united in marriage to Graham Kirby. Mrs. Kirby had been active in Red Cross, and in the Council Class of Grace United Methodist Church.
She had been employed a few years at the Pioneer Store, Arlene's and Ambrose's Ready-To-Wear in Story City, retiring six years ago.
Mrs. Kirby passed away Friday morning, Dec. 22 at Story City Memeorial Hospital when she suffered a apparent heart attack. She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Mary Jeanne Bagnall of Nevada and Mrs. Maxine Rohrssen of Manchester, Iowa; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Marcia Stromberg, Sacramento, Calif.
Her husband, Graham, preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1970. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dean Kirby; her parents; and two sisters and three brothers.---from the Story City Herald Jan 4, 1979
