Overt Holland, 78, Roland, Iowa, died Sunday, June 22 1980 at the Story City Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Overt was born in Hamilton County north of Roland on Feb. 9, 1902 to Ove and Isabelle (Johnson) Holland. He was baptized and confirmed in Bergen congregation and was a lifetime member. He was united in marriage to Martha Juella Rod at Bergen Lutheran Church on May 18, 1926.
Mr. Holland owned and operated the Standard Oil Truck Service for 40 years, retiring in 1965.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 25, at 10:30 a.m. from Bergen Church with Rev. Conrad Rolland in charge. Burial was in the Roland Cemetery. Music was furnished by organist, Mrs. Portia Eischen, accompanying Solvay Twedt and Viola Twedt, in a duet, "Precious Lord Take My Hand," also Harris Twedt, Jr., soloist, who sang "The Lord's Prayer."
Pall bearers were six grandsons, Mark, Douglas, Dana, Kevin and Kent Holland and Jeffrey Staggs. Howard Larson substituted for Jeffrey who was inducted into the National Guard the week before and could not attend.
Survivors are his wife, two sons, Loren of Nevada, and Donald of West Bend, one daughter, Mrs. Carol Staggs of Ottumwa, 13 grandchildren, one great grandchild, one brother Berlin, Boone, and one sister, Mrs. Mildred Stevens, San Diego, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Wayne, killed in Korea, one daughter, Mrs. Norma Taylor, one son-in-law, Samuel Taylor, three sisters and two brothers.---probably from the Roland Record July 16, 1980
