Vere Leroy Bielefeldt, 74, the eldest child of Sanford and Charity Gibson Bielefeldt passed away December 1, 1975, at the Story City Memorial Hospital.
Vere was born on August 26, 1901, at Dedham, Iowa in Carroll County. He lived in the Dedham area until 1914, when the family moved to Northwood, Iowa in Worth County. In 1920, He and his family moved to Roland, where he engaged in farming until his death.
On June 6, 1935, he and Dorothy Sowers were united in marriage. To this union were born two children, Donald Vere of Roland and Donna Ione, Mrs. Robert Paulson, of Forest City, Iowa.
Vere was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, where he had served as treasurer of the Salem Lutheran Brotherhood. He was active in many civic activities including serving on the Roland School Board. For many years he was a member of the Howard Township A.S.C.S. committee. In 1944, he was elected a Howard Township Trustee where he served until his death.
He leaves to mourn his death, Dorothy, his devoted and faithful wife for 40 years, two children and seven grandchildren, Diane, Duane, Arlene, Denise and Delores Bielefeldt, David and Kristi Paulson.
He is also survived by two brothers, Arthur of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Cecil of Rolfe, Iowa, one sister, Julia of Des Moines, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sanford L. and Charity E. Bielefeldt.
Vere always enjoyed farm life, many times taking walks among his crops which was one of his great joys. His greatest joy was his grandchildren whom he loved with great affection and admiration. His later years were made happy by the companionship of children and his kindly neighbors.
The funeral service was held in Salem Lutheran Church, Roland, Iowa, on Thursday, December 4, with Pastor Everett Nelson officiating. Mrs. Chester Creswick sang two solos, "Beyond the Sunset" and "Hold Thou My Hand."
Interment was in the Roland Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Raymond Sande, Obed Ritland, George Christian, Cy Christian, David Finch and Carroll Larson.---from the Roland Record Dec. 11, 1975
