James A. Swenson, 63, of Ames, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at his home. A private family service will be planned for a later date.

James A. Swenson was born Dec. 16, 1944 to Elmer and Amy (Gjerde) Swenson in Eldora, Iowa. He was a 1963 graduate of Roland High School and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. James worked as a technician for Sauer Danfoss. He liked to dance when he was younger and enjoyed hunting, drinking coffee, and stopping to talk with farmers.

He is survived by his brother Roger (Virginia) Swenson of Ankeny; three nieces, Angela (Mark) Schnurstein of Ankeny and their children Emma Louise and Mason James; Wendy (BJ) Whitaker of Story City and their son Tucker; Shanon Green of Webster City and their children Paul Gage, Skylar, and Blaise; one aunt Alice Gjerde of Story City; and a sister-in-law Diane Swenson of Story City.

James was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Paul Swenson.

Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City is assisting the family with arrangements.
