THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, May 25, 2008.
Ronald Thompson, 76, of rural Boone, died Friday, May 23, at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames with burial following in Roland. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone.
Thompson was born on Nov. 23, 1931, in Polk County to James and Wilma (Burkey) Thompson. He married Marilyn Hovde, of Roland, on Sept. 12, 1954. He served in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He farmed his entire life in Dallas and Boone counties and raised registered Hereford cattle. He was a past member of the National and Iowa Hereford Associations. He was a 4-H leader for 25 years and was a member of the Boone County Beef Committee for 15 years. He also worked for the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine for 10 years.
Thompson enjoyed reading and watching NASCAR races in his later years, and throughout his life, he never knew a stranger. His life was his family, friends and farming.
Ron is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of 53 years; son Paul Thompson, of Boone; daughters, Lori (Kent ) Fehr, of Omaha, Neb., Karen (David) Noftsger, of Clive; grandsons Grant and Andrew Fehr, Jacob and Joshua Noftsger; and brother, Rodger Thompson, of Ames.
His parents preceded him in death.

Memorial Services of Iowa Inc., of Ankeny, is in charge of arrangements.
