July 22, 1936-April 15, 2008

David L. Lendt, 71, Director of University Relations for the University of Missouri System from 1989 until his retirement in 2000, died Tuesday, April 15, of acute myelogenous leukemia. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, Mo. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia.

He joined the University of Missouri after having been a member of the information and development staff at Iowa State University for 22 years, the last five as director of university relations. He also was associate professor of journalism and a member of the graduate faculty at ISU.

He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Alice Deitchler Lendt; his daughter, Stephanie Lendt Hibray, of Ballwin, Mo.; his son, Thomas David Lendt and his wife, Traci Payne Lendt, of Des Moines; and his daughter, Sarah (Sally) Lendt Anderson and her husband, Daniel G. Anderson, of Minneapolis, Minn. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Valerie and Aaron Hibray, of Ballwin, and Holly and Bridget Anderson, of Minneapolis; and his sister, Barbara Lendt Fitch and her husband, Lester, of LaVista, Neb.

It is the family's wish that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, Mo., or the American Cancer Society.
