ANKENY- Phyllis Diann Stanfel, 67, of Ankeny, formerly of Maxwell, died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines.
Phyllis was born October 17, 1940 on a farm near Mingo, Iowa, the daughter of Marion E. and Nadine B. (Jones) Mullihan. She graduated from Mingo High School. Phyllis was united in marriage to Don D. Stanfel on February 12, 1962 at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. They made their home in Maxwell until moving to Ankeny in 2004. Phyllis had worked for FSA and USDA in Nevada, Iowa until retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Maxwell Christian Church, the Ankeny Square Dancing Club, and the Nevada Whirlers. She enjoyed Swedish Weaving. Phyllis loved and adored her family and grandchildren.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Don, of Ankeny; a son and daughter-in-law: Marion and Kelli Stanfel of Roscoe, Illinois; a daughter and son-in-law: Andrea and Tim Mason of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Kara Wilson, Josh Wilson, Brittney Stanfel, Jeremy Harkin; and 2 brothers: Ted Mullihan and Chad Mullihan, both of Collins, Iowa.
Preceding Phyllis in death were her parents; a brother, Max Mullihan; and a sister, Marlene Cole.
Funeral services were Monday, April 7th, at the Maxwell Christian Church. Cremation followed and inurnment will be at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Taylor Hospice House, 3401 East Douglas Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50317.
