June 18, 1938-April 9, 2008

James Richard Kearney, 69, of Ames, died Wednesday, April 9, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, at St. Cecilia Church in Ames. A funeral mass will be at 2 p.m. at the church, followed by lunch.

James was born June 18, 1938, in Mitchell, S.D., to Hubert and Frances (Lehman) Kearney. He was a high school graduate and served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He married Laurie Jean Filippini Nov. 26, 1977, in Ladd, Ill.

He worked for Sauer-Danfoss for 30 years and was a member of St. Cecilia Parish, the American Legion and the Loyal Order of Moose.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie; children, Bradley, of Minnesota, Paul, of Hanover Park, Ill., Lee (Sheila), of Clear Lake, and Jamie (Angela), of Ankeny; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
