Ethel Franklin completed her life on Monday, March 17, 2008 after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. A celebration of her life was on Friday, March 21 at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Ethel Franklin was born on September 8, 1921 near Huxley to Clifford and Alma (Ritland) Myers. She married Paul Franklin on February 8, 1946 after his return from World War II. Ethel lived on the farm where she and Paul moved after their marriage, until the day of her death.

Ethel was very proud of her family. She enjoyed life and spending time with her many friends that would stop by for coffee. She was always ready to help them out on a moment's notice. She enjoyed working on the farm, especially mowing the yard. She was a great cook.

Ethel will be missed by her daughters, Linda Franklin, of Cambridge and Diane (Rick) Miles of Springfield, IL; grandsons, Paul Miles and his fiancée, Nathalie Morasch of Champaign, IL. and Jason Miles of Springfield, IL.; brother, Gerald (Helen) Myers of Westlake Village, CA; sisters, Grace Myers of Ames and Maxine Switzer of Tucson, AZ; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; and a brother, Ron Myers.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 233, Walnut Grove Cemetery Board and Birthday Club.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Susan B. Kommen Foundation or the Bliss Cancer Center.
