NEVADA - Joseph "Joe" C. Briley, 99, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 29 at Nevada Municipal Cemetery with visitation Friday, March 28, from 6:30 - 8 p.m., at the Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada.
Joe was born at Lone Rock, Iowa on February 13, 1909, the son of John and Icie (Hauseholder) Briley. He attended schools in Nevada. Joe married Norma Ayers on May 29, 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska. Norma preceded Joe in death June 30, 2001. They lived in Burt, Iowa before moving to Nevada in 1919.
He was a Depot Agent for the Chicago Northwestern for 20 years and retired from R. H. Donnelley in 1974.
Joe was a 74-year member of Indian Creek Country Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He enjoyed conservation and enjoyed the duck and geese and the lake at the Indian Creek Country Club. One of Joe's favorite sayings was "What I don't say, people already know."
Survivors include a daughter, Marlys (Charles) Schultz of Roger City, Michigan; and a son, Lynn Briley of Englewood, Colorado; two grandchildren and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Norma.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
