Kenny Moravetz, 70, of Ames, died Sunday, March 23, at Mary Greeley Medical Center of complications from a head injury sustained in a fall on the ice. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday, at Stevens Memorial Chapel.
Kenny Morzvetz was born Dec. 12, 1937, in Boone, to John Paul and Sylvia Moravetz. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1957. He married Marilyn F. Morris June 16, 1963. He served in the Army National Guard for six years.
He began work with the city of Ames Feb. 16, 1968, as an electric meter repair worker. He was promoted and transferred to the Resource Recovery Plant June 23, 1975, as a solid waste operator. He was promoted May 22, 1978, to superintendent of the Arnold O. Chantland Resource Recovery Plant and retired Dec. 31, 1999, after 31 years, 10 months and 15 days with the city of Ames. Following retirement, he worked at various jobs, including CyRide, Iowa Heartland, NAPA Auto Parts, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Accurate Auto Trim and as a crossing guard for the Ames Police Department.
He was a member of the Solid Waste Association of North America; Iowa Jaycees, serving as state chaplain, state editor and state director of region 7; Harley Group; Klassy Kruisers Car Club and Tall Corn Car Club.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Ames; two sons, David (Allison) and Jeff (Margie), all of Houston; grandchildren, Courteney, of Ames, and Austin, Carson and Lauren, all of Houston; one brother, Roger, of Boone; and one sister, Marietta Moravetz (Michael Kaiser), of Mesa, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Pauline.
