Glenda G. (Cunningham) Townsend, 71, St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Story City, Iowa died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Services were held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2007 at Meierhoffer Funeral Home and Crematory. Interment was in the Memorial Park Cernetery.
Mrs. Townsend was born May 5, 1935, in Maryville, Missouri. She resided in St. Joseph most of her life.
On Oct. 29, 1955 she married Charles J. Townsend, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Townsend was a nurse from 1953 to 1997, and formerly worked for Missouri Methodist Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital. She retired from Heartland West Hospital.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Arthur "Line" and Velma J. (Courtney) Cunningham; her infant daughter, Carol Townsend; and four sisters, Willa Stevens, Ethel Keith, Ruth Brown, and Helen Thompson. Mrs. Townsend was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church and Missouri League of Nursing.
She was a Certified Medical Surgical Nurse, Gerontological Nurse, and was qualified by the Missouri Division of Aging & Department of Education as an instructor for the Medication Technician Program and Certified Nurses Assistant Program.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Krugh and husband David, and Cheryl Wahlgren and husband Steve; her son, Charles "Mike" Townsend and wife Lisa, all of St. Joseph; two sisters, Mary Sterling of Trenton, Missouri, and Pam Govig of Red Oak, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
