Dale David Fett, 86, of Story City died Monday, Dec. 31, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday Jan. 5, at Harvest Evangelical Free Church in Story City. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Dale was born Dec. 6, 1921 in Harrisburg, S.D. to William and Katie (Riemann) Fett. He married Gladys Grotewold Feb. 3, 1952. She died Jan. 1, 1986. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe and received the Purple Heart Medal. He was a farmer in South Dakota moving to Ames in 1970, where he worked at Iowa State at Animal Science Teaching Farm. He was a member of the Story City American Legion, lifetime DAV, and enjoyed jig-saw puzzles and tinkering around.
He is survived by one son, David Fett (Mela), of Ames; two daughters, Cheryl Maurer (Richard), of Story City, and Barbara "Bobbie" Montag (Andy), of Bartlett, Ill.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, LeRoy Fett, of Harrisburg, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City.
Soderstrum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
