Howard Gorman, 89, of Story City, died Friday, Dec. 28, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Memorial Services are being planned for a later date.
Howard Gorman was born Dec. 4, 1918, in Algona, the son of Edward and Martha (Haase) Gorman. He married Norma Chamberlin, and she preceded him in death. He married Haroldean (Smith) Flaspohler Dec. 26, 1999, in Story City.
He lived most of his adult life in Mason City. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1939 and was inducted into the U.S. Army into the Red Bull Division in 1944 and was a World War II veteran. He worked for Iowa Power and Light in Mason City for 30 years. He was a life member of the Ames VFW, a life member of Story City American Legion and a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. He enjoyed tennis and played until he was 83 years old. He also bowled until 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Haroldean Gorman, of Story City; one son, Jay (Donna) Gorman, of Longmont, Colo.; one stepson Mark (Rose) Flaspohler, of Story City; one stepdaughter JoEllen (Ayal) Nitzan, of Culver City, Calif.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Janice Burgess, of Cedar Rapids, and Mileen Sinclair, of Texas; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma; one daughter, Linda Gorman, in 1992; one brother; and three sisters.
Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family with arrangements.
