Silas Jacobson, 94, of Story City, died Friday, Dec. 28, at Bethany Manor. Services are pending with the Soderstrum Funeral Home.

Silas Arland Jacobson, 94, of Story City, passed away Dec. 28 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City. Burial will be in Mamrelund Cemetery near Randall.
Si was born on Sept. 4, 1913, to Sam and Sarah (Swenson) Jacobson. He married Lucille McPeek on Dec. 17, 1937. To this union, four children were born: Barbara (Larry) Taylor, of Las Vegas; Mary Lee (Ken) Brown, of Seqium, Wash.; Brad (Karin) Jacobson, of Hampton, N.H.; and Kirk (Judy) Jacobson, of Northville, Mich.
He had several businesses in Story City: B&W Cafe, Shell Station, Si's Sales and Service and Farm Implement Supply. He and Lucille moved to Ames in 1959, where he operated a truck stop for six years and then a Phillips 66 gas station. He and Lucille moved to Florida in 1980 where he enjoyed golfing, participating in church activities and sharing the sights of Florida with visiting friends. He resided there until 2006, when he returned to Iowa and Bethany Manor.
He enjoyed sharing his stories, of which he had many, with his children, grandchildren and his many friends. He was the unofficial "greeter" at Bethany Manor, sitting in his favorite chair in the lobby and visiting with his old friends and neighbors. He was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille; six brothers, Gaylor, Archie, Millard, Elmer, Verner and Vernon; and two sisters, Mamie Twedt and Selma Jacobs.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at the Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
