Eleanor Engstrom, 90, formerly of Story City, passed away at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 6, 2005. She had been a resident at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford since Oct. of 1998.
Eleanor Engstrom was born on April 11, 1915 in Stratford, the daughter of Budd and Ruth (Swedlund) Patterson.
On Dec. 2, 1934, she married Lynn Engstrom at Stratford.
Eleanor was a graduate of Stratford High School. She was an activities director at Bethany Manor in Story City and Rolling Green Village in Nevada until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, reading, and creative writing.
She was a long time member of the South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford and also was active at the Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. She was a 4-H leader in Hamilton County and had been an active member of several organizations at both Stratford and Story City.
Her parents, husband, Lynn in February of 2002, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one brother, Loren Patterson preceded her in death.Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Doris Engstrom of Orlando, Florida; Daryl and Jean Engstrom of Stratford; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Del Denekas of Story City; eight grandchildren, Douglas Engstrom and his wife Cathy of Des Moines, Emmaly Burklund and her husband Scott of West Des Moines, Anthony Engstrom of Des Moines, Bret Denekas of Story City, Debra Blackwood and her husband David of Orlando, Florida, Angie Foster and her husband Chris of Summerville, South Carolina, Chrysten Denekas of Arlington, Virginia, and Zachary Denekas of Kennesaw, Georgia; eight great-grandchildren, Sarah Engstrom of Des Moines, Jordan and Brittany Burklund of West Des Moines, Audrey Denekas of Story City, Emily Blackwood of Orlando, Florida, Danielle, Brooke, and Hailey Foster of Summerville, South Carolina; one sister, Irene Johnson of Stratford; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Patterson of Stratford; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services were held Friday morning, August 12th at 10:30 a.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, with Pastor Remigio Panlaqui and Lay Minister Gina Spohnheimer officiating.
Interment will be in South Marion Cemetery southeast of Stratford, Iowa.
