Gerald Amos Hovde, 90, of Story City died Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Colonial Manor in Zearing. Funeral services were held Monday, March 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial followed in the Roland Cemetery.
Gerald Hovde was born Feb. 22, 1916 to Ole T. and Johanna (Olson) Hovde in Roland. He was baptized and confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland.
On July 2, 1937 he married Laurina Julia Peter at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of rural Boone county. Gerald and Laurina had four children. He was a lifelong farmer and following retirement in 1978, they moved to Story City.
He is survived by his wife Laurina of Story City; two sons, Gaylord of Story City and Harold (Connie) of Arlington, Texas; two daughters, Thelma McNutt (Gene) of Longmont, Colorado and Helen Froehlich (Loren) of Goodyear, Arizona; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild and a sister, Jerene Hansen of Story City.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bennie, Clarence and Joe; and five sisters, Tillie Walker, Mabel Hiller, Della Sansgaard, Mildred Hickle, Ruth Ellingson; and a grandson, Joe Hovde of Arlington, Texas.
Memorials may be made to St. Petri Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
