Eldora "Tootie" Pierce, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 27, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Mark Abraham officiating. Burial was at the Lake City Cemetery in Lake City, Iowa at 5:30 p.m.
Eldora Christine Rietmeier was born on June 12, 1915 in Pomeroy, Iowa to Herman and Tina (Duis) Rietmeier. She was baptized on July 15, 1915 into the Lutheran faith. Tootie lived with her parents in the Pomeroy community as a youth and received her education in the Pomeroy school.
On Nov. 22, 1937, Tootie was united in marriage to Wilbur "Red" Pierce in Lake City, Iowa. The couple was blessed with a son, LaVerne and a daughter, Sharon.
Tootie was a loving wife and devoted mother whose family was always her top priority. In addition to keeping a warm and comfortable home, she worked at Buena Vista Hospital in housekeeping for many years. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards and gardening as well as being active at St. John's Lutheran Church with various activities. She loved family gatherings and in her later years, her grandchildren brought her great happiness. She made the world a better place just by being part of it. Her gentle and joyous presence will be missed daily by those who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, LaVern and wife Elaine Pierce of Story City; daughter, Sharon and husband Dennis Dilocker of Cherokee; nine granddaughters; 20 great-grandchildren: brother, Harold and wife Lettie Reitmeier of Bigelow, Minnesota; sister, Grace and husband Junior Askland of Armstrong, Iowa; as well as extended family and a host of friends.
Tootie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur "Red" Pierce; brothers, Enno, Jack, George and Cass Reitmeier; and sisters, Kate Smith, Tillie Messer and Helen May Hawley.
