Arlen O. Hougland, 85, of Story City died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be in the Story City Cemetery.

Arlen Hougland was born Aug. 17, 1920 in Story City to Hans and Christina (Wicks) Hougland. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He graduated from Gilbert High School in 1938. He was a farmer and raised purebred Hampshire and Duroc hogs which he enjoyed very much. He married Ellen Larson on June 27, 1958 at St. Petri Lutheran Church.

Arlen was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as trustee, He also served on the Hamifton County Pork Board and the Iowa SPF Board.,, He served in the Marines in World Wdr II and was stationed in Tientsen, China.

Arlen is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Story City; two sons, Steven (Lynn) of Story City and David (Cindy) of Rapid City, South Dakota; six grandchildren; a brother, Herman, of Story City; two sisters, Jeanette Thorsbakken and Irene Anderson, both of Story City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers, Selmer and Silas; and a sister, Sylvia Swanson.
