Dean Hetland, age 70, of Ellsworth, Iowa, died on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007.
Funeral services were held, Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at_ Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Dean Hetland was buried at Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth.
Visitation was at the Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Family was present from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Carroll Dean Hetland was born on the family farm east of Ellsworth, Iowa on Sept. 25, 1936, the son of Orville and Elsie (Larson) Hetland. He was a member of the Boy Scouts as a child. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth.
He attended elementary school in Ellsworth and finished the last two years of his high school in Radcliffe, graduating with the Class of 1955. He continued his education at Waldorf College, graduating in 1957.
Dean met his wife Janice at Waldorf College and they were married on May 28, 1958.
In March 1958, Dean joined the Army Airborne and for two years was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado, Fort Ord, California, Anchorage, Alaska, West Point in New York and at Fort Bragg Army Base in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he was a paratrooper.
Dean was actively involved in farming. He enjoyed playing baseball, woodworking, coffee hour with his friends and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Dean passed away in his tractor on the family farm, Sept. 23, 2007.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his wife Janice; three children, Lori Crouse of Ellsworth, Iowa, Dan Hetland and his wife Alana of Ankeny, Iowa and Tory Hetland and his wife Jessica of Polk City, Iowa; five grandchildren, Adam, Cheri and Brandon Crouse, Ariana and Lauren Hetland; along with many other family and friends.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents.
