Jack Barrow, 87, of Ames, died Thursday, Dec. 6, in Boone. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Bethesda Lutheran Church. Arrangements are pending with Adams Funeral Home.

Jack Barrow, 87, of Ames, died Thursday, Dec. 6, at Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, with the Rev. Joel Wight Hoogheem officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery in Boone.

Jack Barrow was born May 15, 1920, in Boone, to Morton and Bess (Shadle) Barrow. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army National Guard and served in World War II as a member of the 34th Infantry Division "Red Bull" and 185th Field Artillery Battalion, serving 39 months in North Africa and Italy. He was an Ames resident since 1945.

He married Bernadine Larsen July 3, 1941. He was a carpenter and he enjoyed gardening. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and Kiwanis and a former board member of Northcrest Community.

He is survived by three daughters, Ann (Charles) Bullard, of The Woodlands, Texas, Jean (James) Handley, of Indianapolis, and Mary (Ron) McFarland, of Westminster, Colo.; one sister, Dorothy Ann Clifton, of Boone; one brother, Raymond Barrow, of Illinois; four grandchildren, Matt, Laura, Amy and Martha; and three great-grandchildren, Sara, A.J. and Julianne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernadine; and one sister, Lois.

Memorials may be given to Boys Town in Omaha, Neb.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
