Dan R. Nelson, 49, of McCallsburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames of complications of multiple myeloma. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. Burial will be in Warren Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg.

Dan R. Nelson was born July 17, 1958, in Story City, to Vern and Marilyn (Thompson) Nelson. He graduated from NESCO High School in 1977. He married Lisa Anderson March 12, 1977, in Ames. He was a homebuilder with Nelson Home Improvement for 30 years. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, McCallsburg Volunteer Fire Department and McCallsburg City Council.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa, of McCallsburg; one son, Josh, of Ames; two daughters, Erin (Nelson) Schnurr, of McCallsburg, and Whitney Nelson, of Omaha, Neb.; two grandchildren, Logan and Parker; his parents, Vern and Marilyn Nelson, of McCallsburg; one brother, Kim Nelson, of McCallsburg; two sisters, Gayle (Larry) Springer, of McCallsburg, and Pam (Mark) Hendrick, of McCallsburg.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Katie.

Fredregill Funeral Home of Zearing is in charge of arrangements.
