M. M. Shearer was killed yesterday at Van Horn by a motor car. He was working on the section there and was on the section motor car when he fell off of it and the motor car ran over him. They immediately started with him for Cedar Rapids but he died before they could get him to the hospital. Mike Shearer was well known here having loived in this vicinity many years and was always an industrious hard working man. He leaves behind his wife and three children. We did not learn what the funeral arrangements are.

MICHEAL MELVILLE SHEARER

Micheal Melville Shearer son of Andrew and Catherine Shearer was born June 23, 1860 in Comppetine [sic Competine Twp.] Wapello County Iowa. The family moved to Story County in 1868 and settled three miles south east of Collins. Micheal Shearer was united in marriage with Julia Etta McClees at Collins in 1888. To this union four children were born, William Andrew the eldest being deceased, Elsie Trammell now residing at Van Horn, Alvis LeRoy making his home with Arthur Etnier family north west of Collins and Henry who lives with his parents at Van Horn. The Micheal Shearer family moved to Colo in 1912, later to Maxwell in 1918 and thence to Van Horn in April of this present year. The untimely accident which cut off his life with us occurred Wednesday afternoon of last week. Mr. Shearer had reached his 60th year but a few days before his death. Besides the wife and children who so deeply mourn the loss are a number of other loved ones, four half brothers, Andy of Los Angeles, Artemus and Valentine of Logan Kansas and Elias of Collins. There is also one half sister, Lizzie McCoy of Ottumwa, Iowa. Micheal Shearer united with the Willow Creek United Brethern Church in 1901. His membership was later transferred to the Methodist episcopal Church of Colo in 1913, the family home at that time.

Services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Methodist episcopal church. Rev. Fred W. Ingvoldst officiating. Music was furnished by the choir.
