Prem Premkumar, of Ames, died Thursday, Nov. 29. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at Adams Funeral Home.
Prem Premkumar was born Nov. 23, 1954, in Madras, India, the son of Gopalaswamy and Devaki Premkumar. He earned a bachelor of engineering degree from Regional Engineering College in India. Then he graduated from the Indian Institute of Management, India, in Information Systems and Operations with a P.G.D.M. (MBA) in management. After obtaining a doctorate degree in information systems from the University of Pittsburgh, he came to Iowa State University in 1989 to become the Union Pacific professor of information systems in the College of Business.
He married Shoba Kumar in Madras, India, July 15, 1985. They have two sons, Mukund Premkumar, on Feb. 28, 1989, and Deepak Premkumar, on Aug. 15, 1992. He, along with the family, enjoyed biking, playing cards and board games. He also enjoyed gardening in his free time, traveling around the world, teaching whenever the opportunity arose and exercising his mind.
His research papers have been published or forthcoming in "MIS Quarterly," "Information Systems Research," "Decision Sciences," "Journal of Management Information Systems," "IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation," "Communications of the ACM," "European Journal of Information Systems," "Information and Management," "Omega," and other leading journals and conference proceedings. He served as the associate editor in "MIS Quarterly," and on the editorial board of "IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management," "International Journal of Electronic Commerce" and "Journal of Information Technology Management."
He is survived by his wife, Shoba; his sons, Mukund and Deepak; his dog, Leo; his sister, Usha; and his parents, Gopalaswamy and Devaki.
