Doris Marie Canney, 85, of Maxwell, died Monday, Oct. 8, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at St. Mary's Holy Cross Catholic Church near Elkhart. A Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. and visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.
Doris Marie Canney was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Maxwell, to Edward Andrew and Huldah (Finley) Stebbins. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1940 and married Marvin "Bob" Canney Sept. 10, 1940, in Maxwell.
She was a member of St. Mary's Holy Cross Church, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Polka Club of Iowa. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed dancing and playing cards.
She is survived by one son, Robert (Martha) Canney, of Janesville; one daughter, Charlotte (Dave) McHone, of Maxwell; four sisters, twin sister Dorothy Pihl, of Altoona, Wis., Leona Pihl, of Augusta, Wis., Maxine Viers, of Maxwell, and Opal Geesaman, of Urbandale; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Donna Smith Frank; two brothers, Finley and Lester Stebbins; and three sisters, Hazel Hurst, Elsie Garner and Evelyn Alder.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to St. Mary's Holy Cross Catholic Church in Elkhart.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
