Roger E. Thomas, 61, of Ames, died Monday, Oct. 8, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Adams Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rayl Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Story Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Roger E. Thomas was born May 12, 1946, in Highland, Kan., to James M. and Eunice (Horner) Thomas. He moved to Ames in the late 1970s. He married Josie Moore in 1965; they later divorced. He married Janet Colt in 1987. He worked at the Creamery in Zearing for 16 years, then in maintenance for the city of Ames at the Power Plant for 27 years. He retired in 2007.

He loved his dog, Mollie Ann, fishing, hunting, playing pool, riding his motorcycle and watching auto racing. He was a kind, tenderhearted person with many friends.

He is survived by his former wife, Janet Colt, of Ames; two daughters, Shana (David) Hayes, of Ogden, and Cherine (Terry) Johnson, of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Barbara Petrus, of Ames; two brothers, Charles Thomas, of Ames, and Albert Thomas, of Huxley; and two grandchildren, Dylan and Jordon Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Geyman; and sister, Sandra Flora.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
