Lawrence Edward Marty, 84, of Ames and formerly of LuVerne, died Sunday, Oct. 7, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at LuVerne United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in LuVerne Cemetery.
Lawrence Edward Marty was born Feb. 12, 1923, in LuVerne, to Edward and Anna (Elmer) Marty. He graduated from Vernon High School and attended both Westmar and Iowa State University. In 1945, he married Eleanor Beckman and then shipped out to serve in the Philippines in World War II. He farmed his entire life in Humboldt County and was involved in the insurance industry up until his death.
He was an active member of Gideons, LuVerne United Methodist Church and Heartland Senior Services. Traveling, mission work, visiting his great-grandchildren and watching the Cubs baseball were a few of his favorite pastimes. In 2002, he moved to Ames to live closer to his family.
He is survived by one brother, Don (Donna) Marty, of LuVerne; one son, Norm (Vicky) Marty, of Ames; three grandchildren, Chad (Joelle) Marty, Kari (Matt) Ruba and Chris Marty, all of Ames; and six great-grandchildren, Logan, Gus, Ely, Griffin, Alex and Toby.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
