Verne Leo Kinne, 81, of Boone, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, at his home. Verne's body has been cremated. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Carson Funeral Home in Ogden. Pastor Gordon Lundberg will officiate. Immediately following services, a gathering of family and friends will be held until 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date.

Verne Leo Kinne was born Sept. 19, 1925, in Gowrie, the son of Franz and Matilda (Nahnsen) Kinne. He attended Gowrie schools. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in January 1945. He served his country during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in November 1946.

He married Verjean Hachmeister Dec. 30, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids. They lived in Coon Rapids where he farmed and also worked at Keister Lumber Company. In 1977, they moved to Jefferson where he was employed as the park superintendent for the city of Jefferson. In 1993, the couple moved to Boone where they built their new home.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden and belonged to the American Legion in Coon Rapids, Jefferson and Ogden. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, working in his yard and his flowers.

He is survived by his wife, Verjean Kinne, of Boone; one daughter, Kari Ellett (Jim Duea), of Ames; two sons, Kim Kinne, of Boone, and Kevin (Sarah) Kinne, of Hanlontown; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Craig) Huegel, and Kolton, Kelsie and Kendra Kinne; one great-grandson, Andrew Huegel; two brothers, Lawrence (Deloris) Kinne, of Novi, Mich., and Walter (Marie) Kinne of Grinnell; two sisters, Dorothy Sutherland, of Des Moines, and Ruby Denklau, of Fort Dodge; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clarence Kinne; two brothers-in-law, Max Sutherland and Wilbert Denklau; and one son-in-law, Bill Ellett.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
